MAximo Laura Tapestries
With over 30 years of experience as a tapestry weaver, Maestro Máxima Laura (Ayacucho, Perú) is internationally recognized as one of South America's pre-eminent and most unique textile artists. He is also a consultant, designer and lecturer on art and contemporary Andean textile design. His work is the integration and synthesis of ancestral weaving techniques, symbols, memories, myths and rituals with contemporary art.
In 2010, Maestro Laura was designated a Human Living Treasure; this important award is given following UNESCO guidelines, to an artist whose role has been to preserve and elevate the culture of their homeland.
Maestro Laura's art has traveled the world with 140 exhibitions in more than 29 countries. Owners of his work include:

Maestro Laura has worked many years with PUCHKA Perú, responsible for the Tapestry Weaving Workshops in Arequipa during the 22 day tour, as well as our host and guide during the 12 day Ayacucho/Huamanga Tour. We also visit his workshop and private studio while we are in Lima and Museo Maximo Laura while we are in Cusco during the 22 day tour. Maestro Máximo Laura has overall responsibility for PUCHKA and his energy and ethics are behind everything it does.
